To my beloved friends and family:

The Joyce family's official baptism date is scheduled for May 17th!  They are reading from the Book of Mormon and coming to church and doing really well!  We love visiting and teaching their family!

Last week when we were on exchanges, Sis Manwill felt prompted to try and contact a Sara, a person she saw when she was here last time.  Sis Little and I had tried several times to contact her, but to no avail.  So we went over to her trailer park with little faith on my part.  When we pulled in, we saw a mom and her son walking back to their house and decided that we should go talk to them.  We closed our eyes to pray as we always do before going to talk to someone, but when we opened our eyes, she was gone!  We knocked on the Sara's door and she wasn't home.  But we knocked on her neighbor's door and that was where the mom lived!  We talked with her and she told us her name was April Ferral and that we could come back and share more!  We tried seeing her last week and she rescheduled on us, but we were finally able to see her Friday

April has gone through a  lot of hard things in her 26 years, but she's in a good place now with a good husband, two step sons and a son of her own.  She was so open to hearing about the church!  We asked if we could come back and teach her and her husband some more and she invited us back for the next day.  The next day we got to teach her and her husband.  Her husband is a good man who does what he can to keep the commandments and help people out.  He hasn't had too good of experiences in church, but has an open mind to let us share our message with him.  Guess what? THEIR WHOLE FAMILY CAME TO CHURCH YESTERDAY!!!!! Since I got here in February Sis Little and I have been praying and looking for a family to bring into the church.  April said she really enjoyed church and that she really wants her family to be involved in church.  She is so ready for the gospel!  Her family is not quite as excited as she is yet, but I'm sure the more contact they have with the spirit the more they will catch the vision of how amazing the gospel of Jesus Christ is!

If you guys wouldn't mind praying for our investigators especially the Joyce family, the Ferral Family, and Brad (it's a long story, but he could really use some prayers) I know they will be given the help they need to come and accept all the blessings of the gospel!

I love you all! Hope you have a great weekend watching conference!

Transfers are this week and I will be staying in Abingdon another transfer with Sister Little!  We are excited!  She will probably be leaving after this transfer so we are going to work hard and make it the best transfer yet.
We're grateful for the miracles we've been able to see and are excited for the miracles that will continue to come!

The Joyces came to church and are doing well. It's always hard to step out of your comfort zone and come to a new church with people you don't really know, but people were pretty friendly.  I hope they were able to feel the spirit.

I went on exchanges this week and got to serve with Sis Manwill in this area and it was a good day! A lot of our appointments and plans fell through and I was praying really hard to be guided to people who were ready to hear the message of Christ's gospel back on the earth and we were lead to 5 new investigators that afternoon! It was such an answer to prayer. She is a great sister and I learned so much from her. I was reminded of how much I still have to work on.

Thank you for praying for our investigators.  I talked to Sis Peck (my companion from West Hills) on Saturday and she said that Lisa is progressing again!  They went over to attempt to see her after a few week break since she kept telling them to leave and she told the sisters that she wanted to take the lessons again and prepare to come back!  She's starting to quit smoking again and seems to be really committed.  President Irion said that when she is ready, they will just have a small rebaptism and give her the gift of the Holy Ghost so people don't think it is strange that she is getting baptized again.  I have been praying for her, so I am so happy my prayers are being answered.

So we had two more lessons with Jim this week.  He is hard to teach!  He loves to talk and is so sure of the things he knows to be true, like the fact that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are one and that "God" is a spirit.  But he read over a hundred pages of the Book of Mormon between our visits which is really neat.  He came to church last week and to a baptism the Bristol ward had this last week (they're the ward we share the building with).  The baptism wasn't very well attended which was sad, but it was really spiritual. I was asked to the play the piano and I think it went well (at least I didn't hit too many wrong notes and didn't stop to fix the ones I did miss).  The mom was excommunicated a long time ago, but within the last year or two she got rebaptized and wanted her son to be baptized also, but because she's divorced her husband wouldn't let him get baptized so they've been waiting for a year and the ward fasted that a door would open up and after a year the father consented and he was able to be baptized!  It was neat.  We were talking with Jim afterwards and he told us that he was never going to get baptized Mormon, but he committed himself to come to church for all three hours next Sunday.  The Bristol Elders think it was because he felt the spirit. Who knows.  But, his wife just moved back in with him-- they've been having some marital problems.  She is extremely jealous and he doesn't think it would be good to have two girls come over to teach so he asked if we could meet him at a Dairy Queen.  We didn't think it would be good to sneak around his wife, so the Bristol Elders are going to teach him.  Maybe they'll find a way to get to him.  He recognizes that the church he goes to isn't 100% right, and he doesn't' think any church today is completely true, but I think he's fascinated by our bold claim that we have all of the truth.  If he does come to know that this is true, I think he'll be a very strong member.  He loves God and Jesus (as the same person) and he is very dedicated to church.  He's a good man and I'm excited to see what will happen!

After we volunteered at the soup kitchen on Tuesday we were driving over to town, we passed Anthony's house and he was sitting on his porch!  We've been trying to get a hold of him for two weeks!  I felt prompted to turn around and go talk to him even though that might be a little weird, but it turned out to be really good. He's a philosophical type who likes to think about everything.  He's really busy, but he's home this week because of Spring break.  We came back on Thursday and we were able to share the first half of the plan of salvation with him.  He's a logical thinker and what we have to tell him makes sense.  He's a little skeptical about Joseph Smith, but was surprised by our boldness of telling him if he reads and prays about the Book of Mormon with real intent that God will tell him it's true and that Joseph Smith is a prophet.  We'll see if he follows through!  But now spring break is over and he's back to busy busy busy.  Hopefully we'll be able to teach him again.

That afternoon we had a miracle-- we had an appointment with Jim and Anthony and needed a team up to come with us.  They were both planned with short notice so we didn't have much time to find team ups.  We asked several people who normally were able to come, but they couldn't and we were feeling stuck.  In most of my prayers that 24 hours I prayed that we'd be able to find a team up so we could teach both of them and a few hours before it was time to go, one of the sisters we asked said she had a change of plans and could come out with us to both appointments!  It was a miracle!  We were so grateful!

That same evening, the Tyhursts took us out to see the Joyce family.  We've been wanting to commit them to baptism for a while now, but the last missionaries a few years ago really turned Ken (the dad) away from the church because they were too pushy.  We decided that we were going to invite them to be baptized on Monday, but then Ken wasn't there because he had to work late.  So on Thursday after our lesson we brought it up and they said they would all be baptized!!!!!!! We didn't set a date because Marsha (the mom) really wants her uncle to baptize her husband and sons since he was the one who baptized her.  Only problem is that he's 70 and lives in San Diego and will have back surgery at the end of the month.  They're going to call him and figure out a good date and tell us tonight!  It's amazing how the spirit has worked with this family over the years and softened all of their hearts.  They will be a great addition to this ward!

We had zone training this week which was really good, as always!  We were so spoiled in Knoxville being 10 minutes away from the stake center-- we had to travel about an hour to get there!  But it was well worth it!  This week was full of spiritual meetings-- we got to travel to Kingsport two more times that week for stake conference.  Elder and Sister Zwick of the 70 were there as well as Pres and Sis Irion.  Saturday evening session was all about missionary work.  All four of them have so much faith and trust in us as full time missionaries.  It makes me want to work even harder so I can be worthy of that trust.  Jada really wanted to go to stake conference, but it was difficult to find her a ride.  She lives on the outskirts of the ward and doesn't have a car.  It's hard finding her a ride to church, so finding a ride to stake conference was even harder!  However, after calling every active member of the ward, we were finally able to get rides for us and her.  I'm glad she has such a desire to be an active part of the church!  I'm so grateful for members who are willing to sacrifice to help out other people.  I think in wards where the boundaries are so spread out, wards members are asked to sacrifice more time, but we are so grateful for all they do to help those who are coming back.

I'm so grateful that Heavenly Father answers prayers and for the knowledge we have that He loves each of us individually.  I love this gospel and I love this work!  There's no where else I'd rather be!

Dear Family and Friends,

Sister Little and I worked really hard this week and doubled the number of lessons and new investigators! That was such a blessing!  We feel like people truly are getting placed in our paths and we are being led to people to teach.

Our most exciting investigators right now are the Joyces. We weren't able to teach the Joyce family this week because Marsha, the mom, has been sick all week.  Hopefully we will see them tonight.  I have high hopes for this family.  The Joyces are foster parents and the two boys we're teaching they adopted through the foster care system a year or so ago.  I think of how much those boys went through (though I honestly don't know any details, but I've heard that life as a foster child is pretty rough) and I think of the blessings that come from being in a stable home. Then I think about all the blessings the gospel could bring.  I wish everyone in their shoes could be so blessed. I know they are blessed because they are good boys and they are ready to hear the message of the gospel.  It'll be a slow process, but they will continue to move forward!

We had a lot of first lessons with a lot of people this week, but we are trying to get back in touch with a lot of them as well.  There is one guy, Jim, who we met who shows a lot of promise!  We met him outside while he was chopping wood and he said that we could come back since he "loves talking about the Lord."  We left him a restoration pamphlet and when we came back, he had actually read it!  But he read that we had the Aaronic priesthood back on the earth again and asked about the Melchizedek priesthood since Jesus Christ was after the Melchizedek order.  How many people outside the church know that?  The more I learn about the Bible, the more my testimony is strengthened that this really is the true church completely restored.  Some of his beliefs are what we believe, but the gospel could add so much to his understanding! He told us that he doesn't believe any one church has all the truth today, even the church he goes to is wrong, but he's doing the best with the knowledge that he has. I think if he listens with an open heart he will realize that this is the church he's been looking for.

Spring is just around the corner!  It's exciting!  This week we have stake conference and zone training, so it'll be a week of spiritual enlightenment!

This past p-day we got to explore the city of Abingdon a little more and it was a lot of fun! Today we are going bowling with our district and a 75 year old lady from our ward is going to teach us how to bowl-- she was in a bowling league back in the day and quite good!  Pictures to come!

We are in the tri-cities area: Kingsport, Johnson City, and Bristol- Bristol being the closest (only 10 miles away).  Fun facts about Bristol: the Bristol motor speedway is mentioned in the opening scene of Cars, and Bristol is the real home of country music!  Kind of fun!

The Joyce family came to church this week!  We taught them about following the prophet and the Word of Wisdom and it went really well!  The family is great! They really want to be baptized as a family and are working towards this goal.  It's really neat to be able to teach a family and think about how much the gospel will be able to bless all of them.

On Saturday, the Marion Elders in our district were having a baptism.  We really wanted to take Brad since he wasn't able to attend Chandler's baptism, but he cancelled on us again.  So we just went with Hillary who got baptized in September.  We had a nice time.  It was a 15 year old boy and his father and sisters are now working towards baptism and his mom (already a member) is coming back to church!  But the best part was on Sunday when Hillary bore her testimony and told us how going to the baptism really helped her remember the feelings she had when she was baptized and how it blessed her life.

I'm so grateful for all the blessings of the gospel. This truly is Christ's Church back on the earth today!
Sorry this isn't longer--but know how much I love you all!
